Workshop: Promoting decent and productive employment of young people in rural areas. IFAD HQ 13 April 2012

IFAD and ILO have reviewed different programmes related to rural youth, to develop elements of a framework of intervention for promoting decent and productive work for youth living in rural areas. This workshop presents the findings of this joint review, with emphasis on examples in Egypt, Madagascar, Nepal, Nicaragua and Senegal. IFAD and ILO recognize the need to increase decent and productive employment opportunities for youth in rural areas. Over 85% of the 1.2 billion young women and men are in developing countries and live mainly in rural areas. They can be true "engines" of rural growth and transformation, if given proper support.
